I’m sometimes hesitant when the phone rings and it says the call is from ‘overseas’.
I pick up and answer and there is silence – I know I’ve just been dialed by an automated system and in a few seconds someone with an Indian accent will gleefully tell me that I have been selected for some special service’?.
… wait for it’?
‘Hello, I’d like to speak to the owner of the business please?’
‘Yes. What can I do for you?’
‘As you are a Telstra business customer, I am happy to tell you that ‘? blah, blah, blah’ – he gets his first line out before my response:
‘That’s incredible; you just said word for word exactly what someone else said to me on a call only two days ago!’
His response: ‘Ok forget it’ ‘? ‘click’
Baffled: I was only telling him the truth, a lovely Indian lady did ring me on Monday and say word for word what he said!
Some jobs must be very demoralising.
