Will you be a leader in 2009?
Posted on Jan 26, 2009 in Pondering | 0 commentsIn a similar way that the Melbourne Cup signifies the start of the ‘silly season’ and the beginning of the end of the working year, for many in Australia, Australia Day (January 26th) signifies the start of the serious part of working year. Until Australia Day, many workplaces have been operating on less than full compliment of staff as employees take time off to enjoy the summer school holidays with their kids.
I started my day with my regular 10km jog as the sun came up. As usual my mind jumped from topic to topic as I took in the fresh morning air.
One of the main things going through my mind this morning was the role of managers within organizations and the difference between a manager and a leader. There is actually a very clear difference, but it is the leader that will make more profit for the business. I thought I should write something about this on our business site so I have just written ‘Are you a Leader or a Manager?‘
As we move deeper into this recession, it is leadership that will make the difference for small businesses and large companies alike, and enhancing leadership skills and leadership thinking will mean the difference between having a job and not having a job for many managers.
