Coach

Anyone will benefit from leadership coaching because, the first step to becoming a good leader is to get control of your life and your relationships.

Life coaching, or personal development coaching, started in the 1890s but it’s only fairly recently that people have started to realise the benefits a good personal coach can bring to your life.

As the pressures of our modern lifestyles impact on us, we find ourselves lacking purpose or direction that can affect many aspects of our lives.

Who am I... and what do I want?

You should consider a life coach if you find yourself:

  • Lacking clarity, support or direction;
  • Feeling overwhelmed and needing some balance;
  • Lacking in motivation either in your personal or professional life;
  • Wanting to take the next step in your career or relationship;
  • Finding it hard to set and reach your own goals; or
  • Wanting someone to chat to who has only your agenda and best interests at heart and whom you know will ‘give it to you straight’.

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do I sometimes feel that I lack direction?
  • Do I feel as if there’s something missing in my life, but I don’t know what it is?
  • Are there aspects of my life that I’m simply tolerating?
  • Do I have a dream, but feel as if it’s too much of a stretch to get there?
  • Do I make lists and set goals, but never carry them out?

If you answered yes to any of the above, you should read on:

What to look for in a personal coach

Because life coaching has become so popular in recent years, more and more coaches enter the market every day, making it more difficult for you to choose which coach would be best for you.

Three tips to help you select your life coach:

  1. The most critical thing is to look for is a coach who ‘walks their talk’. If your coach is very overweight or smokes or drinks excessively, these are clear indicators that the person can’t manage their own life.
  2. You should look for a coach with life experience, preferably over 35 with children who have at least reached their teenage years. At this age, your coach will have experience with many of life’s ups and downs.
  3. It may seem obvious but look for a coach who has experience in the area of life you are most lacking in. For example, if you are looking to your coach for relationship guidance, obviously you want a coach who is in a magnificent relationship and has had prior personal experience of difficult relationships.

The only way you’ll find out if I’m the right coach for you is to give me a call and just let’s meet for a chat. If nothing else, you’ll get a better understanding about whether coaching is for you or not. If not, well that’s ok.
