Oberon old art deco cinema
Posted on Aug 28, 2008 in Pondering | 0 commentsOberon is a funny place. Smack bang in the middle of the town centre is this fabulous art deco building that was originally a cinema.
I’ve driven through this town many times over the years and usually stop in town for a coffee. Not that I’m recommending the coffee – the stop is really just an excuse to stretch my legs. But for me this building speaks so much of an era long gone that I can imagine Saturday nights with all the locals lined up for a night out.
There is a craft shop in there now and the town’s main attraction appears to be the pub, where I note a sign on the door about ‘ladies night’. .. perhaps the town is still in the 30s after all.. just now it has no cinema!
