Living Proof – You Can Do Anything
Last week the community of Hall put on a little fundraiser for Deborah De Williams as she passed through Hall on her world record run around Australia. With her fantastic support crew of Karin and Owen (mum and dad);?partner, Glyn; and her faithful Border Collie, Maggie, Deborah has jogged over 16,000km of her 17,407km journey to raise money for breast cancer research. Her tally so far stands at $205,738 and she hopes to reach $300k. If you’d like to support her mammoth effort, you can make a donation via her website Running Pink....

I’m very aware that it is a long time since I put a post up on this blog, in fact I’ve often thought about doing it but frankly I’ve just been too busy focused on other things. The last month my focus has been on changes we are making to Life7 (our coaching business). We have decided to split the business into three specific coaching streams, business coaching, professional development and family and life coaching. This has meant not only a lot of work on the Life7 website, but a lot of behind the scenes organisation as...

One of the things I often do is go for a jog before breakfast. When I?m traveling, my morning jog can be a bit of an expedition, as it was a few days ago. We were staying in a hotel in Wagga Wagga for a few days and as usual, I?d packed some exercise gear. I don?t like running along the roads if I can avoid it, so the night before, I pulled up Google maps to find a route for my morning jog. I was in luck, there appeared to be a good path following along the edge of the river for three or four kilometres in either direction from the hotel. In...

The Great Volcanic Mountain Challenge I love a challenge, in fact like all of us, I need a challenge, because without it, I just seem to let life happen to me. Lately my fitness has suffered from a lack of focus. I need to lose a few kilograms and I need to increase my aerobic capacity so, I needed a suitable challenge. Whilst having a beer with a friend on Friday night, he said ‘I’ve got just the thing for you.’ And so begins my commitment to run in the Great Volcanic Mountain Challenge. We all need regular challenges to...

The disastrous flooding in Queensland, NSW and Victoria distracted the country?s attention and whilst all around us has been flooded with water, we have been flooded with activity; social, community, family and work. Stand aside 2010, 2011 is well underway. January is usually a fairly quiet time of the year for us. Most organisations are running with a skeleton staff, traffic on the streets flows easily at peak hour and life is usually pretty quiet. Ordinarily, this is a great time to rearrange the filing system, update equipment, configure...

This is the time of year when, like millions around the globe, I usually have another look at my goals and reconsider my life and purpose. Many people just look forward, asking themselves ‘what do I want to do this year?’ and then they boldly make statements such as: ‘This year, I’m going to get fit’… I know how successful that can be because I used this ‘process’ for many years myself – with less than excellent results! Like any business or marketing exercise, what we should be doing is...

And a Tip for New Year Another year draws to a close having seemingly been somehow shorter than all the years before it. Already we are well into party mode with much food and drink already under our belts? (Or perhaps rolling over our belts!). Like many others, I’ve also started to think about new goals I’d like to set for 2011. One that always comes to mind is getting fit. For some reason I never seem to be as fit as I want to be, especially around this time of year! Last year I wrote my goals down ? this is important because...

We have had many storms and record rainfalls over the last few weeks and the place is a quagmire.? The dams are all bursting over spillways and the creeks are all swollen, there is some minor flooding and quite a few homes have sustained water damage. On Saturday, it was a fairly clear day and I spent the morning helping a friend remove over 30 sleepers from his garden, some of which had white ants in them.? When took them to the tip, it was so muddy that the car became bogged up to the axles. It took an hour to pull it out (thanks to a guy...

Buying produce at a supermarket is a crazy alternative We had visitors coming for dinner on Saturday night, so in the morning, we decided to go to the markets to get some fresh produce. Normally we would have gone to the supermarket but these are friends who like their food, so this time we decided to go to the Farmer?s Market. As we entered the Capital Region Farmer?s Market, we were swept up in the experience. This market is run by one of the local Rotary Clubs and the place was a buzz with activity. This was done well? really well. Apart...

Leading a Double Life I recently went to a surprise party and as I was walking the dog this morning, it occurred to me that the whole idea behind a surprise party isn?t quite as simple as it may first appear. The obvious idea behind a surprise party is of course, that it has to be kept a secret from the intended recipient of the surprise ? and that can be an extremely difficult thing to do. Especially if there are blabbermouths, careless friends, party poopers or children involved! The Real Secret Behind a Successful Surprise Party I asked...
