Fruit juice eating and exercise

I read a good article in the Herald Sun yesterday called Top tips for weight loss, which said that we each eat between 2 to 10 times the amount of food that we did 20 years ago. When you think about it; have a look at some old news footage and look at the people in the background -  you will see that the general population look a lot slimmer than we do today. The article said that if you don’t change anything else, but you add one glass of natural fruit juice to your daily intake, the concentrated sugar content (energy that your body...

A brisk walk and a BBQ

I was feeling very tired this morning. I rolled out of bed at 5:40am and put my jogging gear on, and strolled out the door, gradually working myself up to a brisk walk. When I got home, I showered and set about waking the kids to get ready for school. Janine had already left and I noticed there were two rashes of bacon in the fridge, so I decided to throw these on the barbecue with some eggs and tomato (anything that uses up our growing pile of tomatoes is a good thing) Callum, our 17 year old, works at the local cinema, which means we often...

Jogging in the dark

Yesterday morning I did my fastest morning jog this year over what I call my 10km route. I was only 20 seconds faster than my previous best – but that isn’t saying a lot because I’m no speedster!! My muscles were still a little fatigued from yesterday’s effort, so I did a few short jogs to get the...

Of jogging and tomatoes

Well my foot seems to have repaired itself so I’m back to doing my morning jogs – but you’re probably wondering where I’m going with that rambling headline? You may remember my elation at our abundant crop of delicious tomatoes and my recent article about saving money with vege patches… (so it will come as no surprise if I tell you that I am partial to a few tasty comestibles!) It turns out that we’ve actually got a few too many tomatoes, so we gave some away and we Googled recipies for sun-dried tomatoes...

Skyfire Canberra 2009

We’re just back from Skyfire 2009. What a great promotion this is! Skyfire is an annual fireworks display at Lake Burley Griffin, right in the heart of Canberra. The spectacular is put on by 104.7, a local radio station which is very popular with the teens. Cleverly they do this with a fair bit of support from the armed services. For the military, it is a chance to be involved with something cool and exciting for the young boys. This was the 21st staging of Skyfire. What I think is so good about it, is that it brings the community...
